Vending machine has been widely used in the commercial
downtown areas nowadays. Because of bad outdoor environment, man-made damage
and other reasons, the machine often out-of-order. In order to timely discovery
of the failure, it’s necessary to monitor the vending machine in real-time . With the continuous development of computer networks
and mobile communication technology, people can use the GPRS/GSM wireless
network as the transmission channel which can communicate between terminal(Vending
machine) and the monitoring center.
Based on the characteristic of GPRS (General Packet Radio Service) network with high transmission rate, always online, covering a wide range of area, we designed the solution which realized the real-time communication between automatic vending machines and monitor center.

Automatic vending control system based on GPRS mainly consists of three parts: automatic vending terminals, GPRS communication network and monitoring center.

Automatic vending control system based on GPRS mainly consists of three parts: automatic vending terminals, GPRS communication network and monitoring center.
The
overall structure of the system shown in chart 1.
Vending machines will send the real-time information, fault information and its own status information transmitted through the serial port GPRS DTU. Then GPRS DTU formats the information in accordance with TCP data integrated into TCP packets, with IP header encapsulated into IP packets, and finally IP PPP frame format of data packets according to pretend PPP frames sent to the GPRS gateway GGSN. Data via access the external data network through the GGSN and in the form of IP packet data through the INTERNET will be sent to the monitoring center server. So the data can be stored into a database by the server.
Vending terminal master controller VMC (Vending Machine Controller) selected Motorola's M68HC11 microcontroller. It has a full-duplex serial port devices, connect to the coins and card reader device through the serial port using MDB / ICP protocol communication. GPRS DTU use Siemens/ZTE provided by GSM / GPRS dual-band module MC39i. It provides a standard RS-232 serial interface, using the serial port for data transfer with the VMC. But the VMC has only one full-duplex serial port and it has already been used. In order to achieve the communication between VMC and the Siemens/ZTE module, we need to let MC39i. module and note device, coin devices, card readers, like as a slave device to use, following the MDB / ICP protocol communication. So we need to design an interface module to complete the MDB / ICP protocol conversion function between the VCM and the MC39i. module .
